Today we drove out to Hope’s house to groom some dogs and we brought Chewy, Sarah’s dog because he needed to be groomed. We also brought our pug Boomer. I got to bathe him and then groom him. Mrs. Marcia came over to teach us how to groom big breed dogs and little toy breed dogs. She taught us a lot. She’s a groomer and she knows how to groom dogs so she wanted to teach Hope and I.

I groomed Chewy first. We put him in a grooming harness. The reason why we want to strap him in a grooming harness is so they can’t jump off the grooming table and break their legs or hurt themselves. She helped us cut his nails and she held him down so he can’t move around while she’s trying to clip his nails. We bathed him first in her bath tub and then we put Shampoo and Conditioner on him. After we were done bathing him we blow dry him and then we brushed him out with a slicker brush. We started shaving him and you have to be very careful and you have to know what you’re doing with the clippers and you also have to pay attention. The slicker brush that we used is called by Chris Christensen and they are the best brushes to use on your dogs but they are not cheep at all. We cut most of his hair off but he still had hair on his tail and his ears and head. That is what they call a puppy cut. Once he was done he looked so much better.

Then we brushed out Boomer with the slicker brush and we sprayed him to make him look better and smell better. We also cleaned his ears and we clipped his nails. He does not like getting his nails clipped. When Mrs. Marcia was brushing him out he had a lot of hair and she showed me how much hair came out of him. He loves being brushed and the brush can’t hurt him. You can brush him up and down. Mrs. Marcia said when long haired dogs have a lot of hair in their ears I can cut some of their hair out and trim them up.

I just want to Thank Mrs. Marcia for coming and helping us and teaching us two how to groom and we could never do this without you and we learned a lot from you so thank you very much for all your amazing help. She’s a really nice person and she’s also a very funny person too. It was a very fun day and also a very exciting experience.

Today I showed Bubbles in Breed and she got First Place in her class. Bubbles did a really good job but she still didn’t put her tail up but she still did a great job. Bubbles earned it! Then we went back in the ring for Winner’s Bitch and of the chance of me winning wasn’t very good but that’s ok. I was in the ring with Mrs. Stephanie Mrs. Rita and Mrs. Edina. Mrs. Stephanie won. She’s really nice and she’s really good at showing.

Today I showed Boomer in Juniors and in Breed, Both were in two different buildings so we had to split up in to different rings at 8:30am. I met my mom up at the Junior ring and it was me and her and of course I was the only one in the ring so I showed by myself. The other Junior didn’t show up so I was the only one in my Novice Senior class so of course I got a First Place Ribbon. I did an awesome job with Boomer but I always do an awesome job with him.

There was only one thing I did wrong. I stood in front of the Judge and didn’t move out of the way when the Judge circled us during a self stack.  You want the Judge to see you and the dog and the Judge doesn’t want to see your back she or he wants to see your face and see the dog and look at the dog.

Hope decide to show in Breed and show Spike. I decide to not go in the ring for Best Junior Handler because I would be in the ring with professional handlers and I knew I may not win and I didn’t want to go in the ring for best junior handler and I wanted to show in Breed so we went back in the main building for breed for me to show so we ran.

Today I showed Bubbles in Chihuahua Breed. She did a pretty good job but she didn’t have her tail up. She walked though and I was so proud of her for walking. She was very calm but at the same time she was scared. She did really good at walking around the ring and she also did a good job on the table when I stacked her.

Not every dog puts their tail up and sometimes when they don’t put their tail up it’ because they’re really nervous. But some Chihuahuas do put their tail up. Bubbles and I did an awesome job and I got second place and I should say Bubbles got second place.

When your showing your dog in Breed the dog wins First Place or Second Place not the handler because in breed the Judge is looking at the dog and is Judging the dog but in Juniors the Judge is looking at the handler and is Judging the handler. That’s what Dog Showing is about and it’s different.

If a Junior wants to be a Professional Handler and someone asks you to show their dog for them you have to look through the Judging Program to look up  what ring you’re showing in and what time you’re showing. You also have to see if there’s any breeds ahead of you. Like if you were showing an Australian Shepherd you would have to see what your number is and what time you show, what ring you show in and to see if there’s any dogs ahead of you too. It’s pretty easy once you keep doing it. There’s a lot of kids out there that work with professional handlers but there’s a lot of kids that don’t work with professional handlers.

I had a great time showing Bubbles and we both did a great and awesome job. Hope showed Smoochie and Hope and Smoochie did an awesome job Today as well.

Alone Again

Today I showed in Juniors and I was in the ring by myself. There was supposed to be another Junior in the ring with me but they didn’t make it to the ring. It was probably another ring conflict, so I was alone.

The Judge was really nice and I got First Place. I went back in again for Best Junior Handler but I didn’t win.  This other girl with her long haired Dachshund won Best Junior Handler. She’s actually very good. All the Juniors did a great fantastic job.

The guy Judge is very young and he looks like he’s 17 or 18 or 19 but he maybe 21. He’s very shy but he’s a very nice Judge. I hope to have him again.

I’m in Novice Senior and Hope is in Open Intermediate. There’s usually a lot of kids in her class. In my class there’s not really a lot of kids. There’s usually nine or ten Juniors in Open Intermediate but in Novice Senior there’s usually two or three, most mostly only one.

Once you get in Open Intermediate or Open Senior it gets harder and then once you get into Master’s it’s even harder. You’re with kids that are all different ages but have won over ten times. They are really good at showing and most work for professional handlers. And they show a lot. Every year you start over and go back to Open and then move up to Master’s again when you have ten wins. But once you turn 18 you don’t show in Juniors anymore because you’re an adult. Once you’re an adult you can still show in breed with adults.

#gallery-6 { margin: auto; } #gallery-6 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-6 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-6 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Today I showed in Juniors and an amazing thing happened. I wasn’t by myself! It was me and these two other girls so I had competition! I worked really hard in the ring and I showed off my handling skills so much that I earned my second win. I beat two other Juniors and I was so excited and happy because I got First Place!  They did a good job as well though. I need one more win to go up to my open class and it’s so exciting.

If Boomer is on the floor he’s fine but when he’s on the table there’s an issue with the bait. This morning our little Pug was a pistol and he was a little hungry bugger. Any smidgen of food got his attention. When we stack Chihuahuas on the table they are small enough that you can place your bait on the back of the table and stack them towards the front with no issue. I did that just this morning and Boomer was all about getting his teeth into that chicken. I struggled to keep his attention away from the food but I handled it all perfectly and the Judge was very nice. The Judge and all the people that were ring side watching me were laughing because Boomer was moving around on the table to try to get the bait out of my hand and he’s a real pistol. I was calm, assertive and confident as I wrangled him while moving the bait and then getting him stacked correctly.My mom got it all captured in photos and I did an awesome job.

#gallery-7 { margin: auto; } #gallery-7 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; } #gallery-7 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-7 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

The Judge clearly thought so too because she pulled me and put me in First Place. At first I didn’t think I would have gotten first place because Boomer was acting up so much. I didn’t think that I would have beaten two other girls but I did.

You need three wins to move up to open but I need one more win to move up to open senior. When my mom saw me get moved up to first place she was so excited for me and she was crying because she was happy and proud of me. Everyone came up to me and said I did an awesome job and I said Thank You. It was a great experience for me. And it was an awesome day and also a fun day and I felt really good too.

#gallery-8 { margin: auto; } #gallery-8 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-8 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-8 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

We learned more about Grooming a Pug and today I bathed Boomer to get ready for a dog show. I bathed him and I used Isle of Dogs No. 16 White Coat Evening Primrose Oil Shampoo. I also used Isle of Dogs No. 52 Nutrient Masque conditioner and that’s what you use on Pugs before a dog show.

It smells really good and my mom has tons of Isle of Dogs Shampoos and Conditioners. She has different colors. The reason why we use white shampoo because he’s a fawn dog and white shampoo brightens the fawn color. When you use the shampoo and conditioner on him it softens his coat. Isle of Dogs products aren’t just for Pugs and it’s also for other breeds of dogs. I love Isle of Dogs and a lot of other people that use Isle of Dogs love it because it’s good to use on your dogs. My mom sometimes will order  it online or usually she’ll buy it at show events. Isle of Dogs is awesome.

When you bathe him and before you turn the water on you want to use cotton balls and put them in his ears so he doesn’t get water in his ears. You always want to put cotton balls in every dog’s ears because you don’t want to get water in their ears. That won’t be good at all. They could get an ear infection if you leave water in their ears. The cotton balls protect their ears.

Once you’re done bathing them you can take the cotton balls out and throw them in the trash can. Then you want to put ear cleaner in their ears. You also want to use Q-tips and clean out their ears.

Once your done bathing the dogs you want to put the dog on the table and blow dry it. I blowed dried Boomer once I was done bathing him. I had to make sure he was all the way dry. It takes awhile for me to blow dry him. When I was done blow drying him, I brushed him out with the curry brush. I sprayed a little bit of Isle of Dogs spray to make him smell better and smell handsome. Sometimes I’ll spray him with  Isle of Dogs Jasmine & Vanilla flower or sometimes I’ll put Isle of Dogs brush spray on him. That stuff is good for your dogs before you’re getting ready for a dog show.

I also used baby whips to clean out his nose or eye boogers. We also had to shave his whiskers on his face and we had to trim up his tail and his butt before the show. We wanted him to smell good and look good for the dog shows. And I’ve learned a lot about Pugs and I know how to groom dogs and I enjoy doing it.

The TBCC’s 55th Specialty was held in conjunction with St. Petersburg show in Tampa and even though it was a very long day we had a fun day.

I showed in Juniors for the Chihuahua specialty and it was only me, Hope and Rachel. I showed Beamer, Hope showed her dog Spike and Rachel showed her dog TinkerBell. We all did an awesome job. Best Junior Handler went to Rachel and she deserved it. I think she did a better job then Hope and I. I also think her dog did a better job then Beamer and Spike.

I don’t think Beamer did a great job, but that’s my opinion. He didn’t really put his tail up and he was scared. He didn’t do that good when I was free stacking him and he wasn’t staying focused. I was kinda disappointed. Oh well, maybe next time. Like I always say, you don’t always win. I think Spike did a better job then Beamer but that’s just me.

I also showed Beamer and Bubbles in Breed. I was in the ring by myself with Bubbles so she got first place. I went in the ring by myself and Beamer took Best Puppy in smooth coats. But of course he was the only one in the ring. Then Beamer and I went in again with my mom’s friend Mrs. Barbra and of course she beat me. She did a good job though oh well. It was a very fun day but also a very long day too.

Today I showed we had a dog show in Tampa and guess what? I got my very first win!

In Juniors and it was me and this other girl. I showed Boomer and she showed a German Shepherd. You could tell she was very nervous and she looked like she was rushing. You shouldn’t rush it. You should take your time and have fun and that’s what it’s all about.

I was the same way when I started but now I’m not scared because there’s nothing to be scared of. It’s about having a great time and also taking your time. I beat her and I got First Place and she got second place but she still did a great job.

I think the dog was scared too and the dog probably knew she was nervous. I think the reason why the dog was so scared was because the dog knew she was rushing and that she was nervous. I am sure the judge could see that. She could tell I wasn’t nervous so that’s why she picked me. I was having fun and I stayed calm. She also picked me because I stayed more focused not he dg and the judge that the other girl did.  I still think she did a good job and I think we both did a great job.  I kinda felt bad for her because she didn’t win and was nervous and scared and was rushing it. But not everybody wins a first place ribbon. I am sorry that she lost but I am so excited that I finally got my first win. That’s so awesome and I’m so proud of myself.

Today Boomer got his teeth cleaned and they had to knock him out so they could clean his teeth. They let me in the room and I got to see the doctor clean his teeth and go inside in his mouth.

It was kinda cool to watch and learn but it was kinda sad seeing my dog be knocked out. They have to knock him out though so they can reach into his mouth and clean his teeth. It was so neat to see in there because a Pug has all of the same teeth as other dogs but they are not lined up the same way. They are all squished into their mouth and they are in all different directions. If Pugs were people they would need braces!

While Boomer was knocked out,  I got to clip  while they’re cleaning his teeth. When he’s awake I can’t clip his nails, he won’t let me so this time I was able to without him pulling away.

I wanted to be there for my dog and watch my dog. I’m glad he got his teeth done because he needed it bad. He has some rotten teeth that needs to be pulled. The vet had to pull four of his bottom front teeth.

It was kinda weird seeing them go inside his mouth but it was also pretty cool too. I’ve never seen someone go inside a dog’s mouth and clean a dog’s teeth.  I also have never seen a vet go inside a big toy breeds mouth so that was my first time. That was pretty awesome! Pugs have a big mouth and Chihuahuas have a small mouth.

He was finally done and they finally woke him up and it took awhile for him to come to. They put him in a cage to keep him safe because he was still very dizzy. IHe looked so sad and upset. Poor guy. It was like he was drunk or on drugs . He wasn’t though. He just got knocked out. They did blood work on him on his arm but he’s ok though. He’s such a good boy and I love my Pug Boomer.
